Brief Resume

Zerefşan Kaymaz received her BSc from Department of Meteorology, İstanbul Technical University.  She completed her master and PhD studies in Department of Atmospheric Sciences of University of California at Los Angeles.  She did her postdoctoral studies in Boston University, Center for Space Physics.  After her return to Turkey, she started working in Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Department of Meteorology as Assistant Professor.  Her research is focused on Space Weather and Environment, Solar Terrestrial Physics, Space Physics, particularly in magnetospheric physics, ionospheric physics, solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, GGCM.  She continues collaborating with her colleagues in UCLA, Boston University, Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University and Extraterrestrial Laboratory of NASA within the framework of NASA and/or NSF projects.  She received Alexander von Humbolt fellowship to carry out her studies in Max Planck Institüt Für Aeronomy in Katlenburg-Lindau, Germany.  In 1999, she received Turkish National Scientific and Technological Council (TÜBİTAK) Young Scientist award for her studies in Upper Atmosphere and Space Physics.  She is the author/coauthor of 24 SCI journal papers and, as of December 2007, has 205 citations in SCI.  She speaks English and German.  She is the supervisor of one master and one PhD student.  She is full professor at the above mentioned faculty since July 2003.  Currently she is the project leader of one TUBITAK project.  Within the project frame, the project team is in the process of establishing the Space Weather Laboratory.  She acted as the head of the Erasmus Office of European Union Centre of Istanbul Technical University from July 2005 to September 2008.  She continues to be the Erasmus Coordinator for her own department only.  She is also the program coordinator of graduate studies in the department.
